Visiting an old Alpine botanical garden

This gem is deep in the valley of the Avançon river at Le Pont-de-Nant. As it has to be for such a location nature is completed by a restaurant. But we went first to the garden dating from 1891.

Then we had our lunch, walked a ways into the valley off limits for cars (other than heardsmen) and rested along the river having become a rushing brook. It was still sandy-grey from the previous night’s havy rainstorm. Before we visited the restaurant for …you guessed it, ice cream, another stroll to the garden where the ponds fascinated some of ixhtyologists amongst us …well, sorry, no fishing here 🙂
